Clik here to view. It’s the last round of auditions, and Natalie and I are scoping out the Salt Lake City talent. Adam Shankman joins the show tonight as our third judge. We’re hoping to see some ballroom dancers finally audition (BYU is right around the corner). Let’s see what Utah has to offer.
Whitney Carson – Latin Ballroom Dancing (Yes!!!)
Vegas!!! That was fantastic. We love the intermix of cha-cha and tango. Totally on board with her. Great way to start the episode.
Lynn Gravatt
No go. Very interesting character to say the least. No judgement passing going on her but she’s certainly got character. Interesting interview done by Cat. It didn’t look like she dances bad. Let’s see how she does in the audition.
It certainly looks like she’s got a force controlling her body. No training here, but she did look very happy dancing. She did this little hand move and had this smile on her face, it was just so genuine.
Deanna “Dee” Tomasetta
Vegas!! For a girl from a large italian family she dances just the right amount and doesn’t over do it. She’s got the moves and got the passion. You can see it all over.
Gene Lonardo
Vegas!! Lifecycle of the male preying mantis. That’s an interesting concept. He’s going to have to lose his head at the end. How’s he going to do it?
Well he’s really like a preying mantis. He’s actually a good dancer doing a bizarre piece – very talented. Very creative, very intriguing and entertaining. Good performance, very unexpected.
Lindsay Arnold – Ballroom (Yes!!)
Vegas!! We are so excited. She has a very hot costume and I’m totally digging the music. Her outfit totally matched the dancing and it was hot. Her legs are amazing. Great technique too.
Nice ballroom dancing montage. Not enough focus, but this whet our appetite.
Mariah Spears – Krumping
Choreography. I had no idea what this dance was. Krumping? It seems really angry. This girl can kinda move though. Not sure if he showiness if outdoing any technique she has but I dug on the flip she started out with. I think I’m reacting positively but I could go either way.
Murphy Yang
Choreography. Well I didn’t expect the breakdancing to come out there. He paid lots of attention to his outfit. Noticed the suspenders on one of his upside down moves – nice touch. It was very entertaining.
Choreography is intended to weed out contestants and it did. Unfortunately Murphy didn’t make it. Mariah the krumper did make it past.
Dereian Kujawa
Vegas! First reaction, he’s good. He’s got the moves. I can’t believe his acrobatic / gymnast moves. He makes everything fluid, effortless, powerful and full of grace. If he’s not top 20 then we don’t know who would be. Plus he’s great eye candy for the female viewers.
Whitney Hallam & Johnny Ahn
Choreography. A pair of ballroom dancers both competing. 8 months together as partners. He’s got bad spray tan, it’s not holding up to the lighting. I wasn’t that impressed by the routine. She seems pretty good. He’s just got a weird vibe going on for me.
Adrian Lee
Vegas!! He brought it for a second time around. He needs some work but danced great.
Rachel Applehans
Choreography. Very showy hair dance performance. Not technically good but I could see why men would be very fixated on her.
Leroy Martinez
Choreography, The last solo audition of the season has great motivation for dancing. I agree with Nigel that he is a great human being. It makes me want to dance. Leroy can move! What?!?! He just did a backflip and is now dancing on his head! I was not expecting that at all. Holy crap we love him! I agree with the fact that he might not be competitive amongst the field
Second round of choreography weeds out some more and gives out some tickets. Johnny and Whitey are out. Rachel made it. Sadly Leroy didn’t make it, but he did a great job in choreography.
So now we’re all off to Vegas next week for the next stage. In total 181 dancers made it to the next stage. They’re all gonna get pushed to the limits and will have to bring it. We were excited to see some ballroom dancers. Will they be better amongst the field? Will they make it to the top 20. Tune in with us to find out.
